Gameiro's winning history against Villarreal in Europe

A European derby awaits Valencia CF this Thursday, as they take on regional rivals Villarreal CF in the quarter finals of the UEFA Europa League.

Whilst the 'Yellow Submarine' are yet to lose in the competition, VCF player Kevin Gameiro has previous Europa League wins over them. When at former club Sevilla FC, Gameiro played Villarreal in the 2014/15 edition of the tournament, at the Last 16 stage. The Frenchman was one of the stars of the match, providing an assist and the final goal in a 1-3 away win. The Andalusian side would also triumph at home 2-1, going throuh to the quarter finals.

Gameiro has already opened his goal account in the Europa League this season, with the only strike in a 1-0 win over Celtic at Mestalla.

Whilst Mouctar Diakhaby's former side Olympique Lyonnais played -and beat- Villarreal last season in continental club action, the defender did not feature in either of the two games between the two teams.
